Research interest
A graduated set of weighted forks with pointers, made by the leading builder of acoustic apparatus of his century. They were designed so that one vibration could be compared with another, and so that the comparison could be made again next year.
I keep this entry at the front of my own working files because it is a corrective. Everything this project wants - a stable physical response, a documented instrument, a comparison set, an object that can be measured the same way twice - already existed in 1875, in brass, in a fitted box. We are not proposing anything new about how to measure. We are proposing something rather ambitious about what to measure for, and the difference between those two things is the difference between this project being serious and it being embarrassing.
